High-flow

Case summary

  • 36 year old female who is generally healthy
  • Has had intermittent experiences of shortness of breath throughout recent years but never required hospitalisation
  • Wheezing and increasing shortness of breath over the last 3 days
  • Presented with moderate - severe respiratory distress in the emergency department and diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection

Treatment

  • Heated high-flow oxygen therapy
  • Rescue beta-agonist and anticholinergic treatment administered in-line via Aerogen Solo

Patient outcomes

  • High-flow therapy ceased
  • Continued treatments via Aerogen Ultra
  • Suspected asthma patient, referred for testing and discharged home
